Ask your own question
When
You already have a current focus (any subset). You know what you want to learn. There may or may not have been a prepared view.
Focus
Stay on the slice you just confirmed. This recipe is only step 4.
What “your own question” looks like
Not a product name. A thing a caller would ask in the after-action:
- “Among these, who actually traded well — Effectiveness, not scoreboard points.”
- “Split this table by the troop type that hit us.”
- “When did we start sending dust in this pile, by player.”
- “Which of our layers did the killing on the holds that stood.”
- “(Killing minus fallen) over troops fielded — call it net kill rate.”
- “Same look, but only full joins.”
- “Explain the row that looks insane — is it stake or a bad trade?”
Several wordings, one job: analysis you specified, on the focus you have.
What good output looks like
A measure named out loud, a table or breakdown you can argue with, and no silent jump to a different player or side. Copy the table if the room needs it.
Common miss
Asking the detailed question while the focus is still the whole battlefield, then blaming the Analyst for a blended answer. Cut first, or name the cut in the same message and check the landing.
The other miss: “okay, now do the other official report.” Ask the question instead.
